TOP FIVE REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD BECOME A STEPHEN MINISTER: Reason #5: You will learn to turn danger into opportunity. The Chinese word for crisis is made from a combination of two other characters: danger and opportunity. Every crisis, whether it is a divorce, the loss of a spouse, sudden unemployment or even a much-desired pregnancy provides both an opportunity for growth as well as a danger of choosing destructive solutions. The care of a dedicated, trained, Christ-centered Stephen Minister can help a person in crisis find equilibrium and wholeness. If you would like more information about Stephen Ministry please contact any of the Stephen Leaders: Pastor Stephen Smith-Cobbs at the church office or Joan Gillard at dgillard@cox.net or Teresa Osborn at tmosbo@verizon.net.
MISSION POSSIBLE! Calling all past and future parament makers! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to complete our set of handmade paraments before Trinity’s 50th Anniversary. We need to do a green set, a red set, and a set for Lent. We can either embroider or quilt the sets. All ideas are welcome. We will meet briefly after church on Sunday, July 20, 2008, to do a bit of brainstorming and choose a time for a longer meeting. I recognize that this is summer and vacation time, so if you will be away and are interested in being a part of the group, please call Ginger Wilkinson at virginia.wilkinson@fcps.edu.
MY DEAR FRIENDS AT TRINITY, I wish I could thank each one of you personally for the support so generously given to me and my family in helping us bear the unbearable pain of losing my beloved son, Matt, also a much loved brother, nephew, cousin, grandson and friend. Seemingly endless streams of young people poured through my home for days, mourning the loss of their friend, supporting me, my remaining two children, and each other. I was totally unprepared for the loss, and all I could provide was a place to gather to grieve. Within minutes, my Trinity family, friends and neighbors appeared with food and drink, lots of it. The cards and calls, the flowers and food, the prayers and presence of God through each of you was what helped me endure those numbing, heart-stopping first days, and continue to hold me up now as my heart restarts and the blood starts to flow again. I have been quoted passages from Pastor Stephen’s sermon many times, with the additional comments about how eloquent it was, and how he seemed to capture the essence of Matt and comfort the rest of us. So special thanks go out to Pastor Stephen and Pastor Becca for reaching out to all of us and especially to the young people. I thank you again from the depths of my heart. God’s blessings to each of you, Holly Wieland.
