Christian Education
Trinity is committed to providing educational opportunities for people of all ages in which they might experience the love of God, grow in their understanding of Scripture and of their potential as God’s children, and explore the meaning of Christian discipleship. The Director of Christian Education (DCE) and the CE Committee provide overall coordination of CE activities that include Sunday School (for 2-year-olds through adults held on Sundays from 9:40-10:45 am); Confirmation class for 8th graders; DISCIPLE class (an intensive small group Bible study program); intergenerational programs combining education, worship, and fellowship; Vacation Bible Camp (one week in late July for Trinity children and community children); summer Sunday School (variable topics and times); the church library; and provision of resources, training, and support for teachers and facilitators.
Many volunteers serve in leadership or other roles in all CE programs. They are especially involved as teaching teams at all levels of Sunday School, Bible study programs and Vacation Bible Camp (VBC - sometimes called VBS). Last year about 200 volunteers contributed their time and talents in some way to VBC! Volunteers can also serve as CE committee members; librarians (especially needed with library science skills); preparers of CE publicity materials; and occasional or regular contributors of special skills (computer, drama, art, music, cooking, and more). The Child Protection Policy applies to all volunteers working with children and youth. If you are interested in attending or volunteering for any of these experiences, please email the CE Committee chairperson at ce_chr@trinityherndon.org.
Youth can volunteer in various positions at Vacation Bible Camp and their regular or occasional assistance with other programs is sought, especially as they share special interests and skills.
