New to Trinity?
Welcome to this household of faith
Christian faith is in motion here at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Herndon . . . from the quick patter of little feet to the deliberate steps seasoned with time. There is a spirit of journey taking place, journey filled with promise. Ours is a shared faith journey that is mapped with hope and paved with the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA), we affirm the sovereignty of God over every facet of human life. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we seek to equip ourselves in God’s love and truth.
It is my privilege to welcome you to this household of faith. As you visit with us, be assured that Jesus Christ meets you where you are, accepts you as you are, and desires to guide you into becoming what you were created to be. I pray you will discover refreshment and renewal for your faith here at Trinity and that you might be led to join our fellowship and grow in your understanding of God and service to the Lord.
Faithfully,
Pastor Stephen Smith-Cobbs
FIRST TIME AT A WORSHIP SERVICE? WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT…
Which door do I use? You can enter the church a variety of ways. Some people park on Dranesville Road, especially if walking or stairs are difficult for them, and enter through the front doors. Many people park in the rear parking lot and enter through the double doors in the back. That area is where most adult Sunday School classes take place. There are signs that will direct you up the stairs to the sanctuary.
Do I have to “dress up”? Some people will be in dresses, or suits and ties. Others will be wearing more “business casual” clothing, and still others will be wearing jeans or even sports gear, if they or their children have sports activities on Sundays after worship. We strive to be hospitable to all.
Then what? When you enter the “narthex” (the area immediately outside of the sanctuary near the main front doors), you will be greeted and an usher will provide you a Bulletin that lists the order of service. You can enter and choose any available seat. As you are seated, we ask that you prepare yourself for worship in a spirit of quiet meditation.
What is worship like there? We sing from a hymnal or a printed insert for most hymns because it best suits our worship space and facilitates singing when one can follow along with the notes. Most Sundays, the organ fills the sanctuary with music and the piano inspires. Our singing or ringing choirs add new sounds or new voices to the sound of worship. Reading of scripture and a sermon guide us, moving from information to Christian formation. If you are curious about different components of worship, read about the Elements of Worship.
We invite you to stop by this Sunday to see what we are all about!
