Works Sunday
The faith communities of Reston and Herndon join together annually to hold a “Works Sunday”. A variety of activities to help our neighbors are scheduled at various facilities on this Sunday in August. People from many houses of worship work together getting to know one another and demonstrating God’s commission to us to help and serve others.
Activities vary from year to year but usually include food collections at local grocery stores, or serving lunch and worshiping with residents at senior centers and residences. People unable to volunteer in person can participate by providing in-kind donations that are requested by local agencies. Youth can volunteer and groups can participate through collection drives and other activities.
Compassion Sunday
You can plant hope in the heart of an impoverished boy or girl in a developing country by participating in Compassion International. A donation of $38 monthly provides educational, social and health benefits through a local church in the community where the child lives. Your child will be involved in Christian training and learn that Jesus deeply loves him or her. Currently, Trinity families are sponsoring 17 children through this program.
Supporting a child through Compassion is a very personal experience and the blessings are immeasurable. You and your family will be able to correspond regularly with your child as you provide not only financial but spiritual support as well. You can continue to sponsor your child as long as you wish to do so.
This program is highlighted once a year during church services, but you need not wait until then to participate. Relay for Life
Trinity members participate annually in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life event that is held at Herndon High School usually the second week-end in June. You can help by joining the relay team, making a financial donation, or buying luminaries in honor or memory of a loved one. Youth and groups are encouraged to participate.
